McLaren has revealed its hypercar for the 2027 WEC season, allowing the team to pursue motorsport’s triple crown once more.
McLaren has introduced the MCL-HY FIA Hypercar, marking their comeback to the World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2027. This move signifies a significant milestone in McLaren’s extensive history in endurance racing, following an absence of nearly thirty years. The car, featuring a captivating 2026 test livery inspired by the successful McLaren M6A from the late 1960s Can-Am era, represents McLaren’s pursuit to achieve the Triple Crown of motorsport. With a driver lineup led by Mikkel Jensen and including talents from both McLaren and United Autosports, the McLaren Hypercar Team will commence testing in May 2026. McLaren Racing’s CEO Zak Brown expressed excitement over unveiling the MCL-HY, which completes the trio of competitive race cars across Formula 1, INDYCAR, and WEC, setting the stage for a potential Triple Crown victory. This venture builds upon McLaren’s legacy in endurance racing, highlighted by their victorious debut at Le Mans in 1995 and aligns with the extension of Hypercar regulations by the FIA. Executive Director of McLaren Endurance Racing, James Barclay, emphasized the significance of the MCL-HY’s reveal in heralding McLaren’s return as a major contender in the competitive sports car racing landscape.
